In 2012 we launched the Women for Media database, to provide journalists and event organisers with quick access to experienced and respected Australian leaders from a range of industries. Nothing like this existed in an Australian context, and common feedback I heard from journalists was the challenge of finding women who will speak to the media. Via our database I wanted to demonstrate that there are many excellent female experts ready and willing to offer their voice and valuable perspective.
For over 13 years the database has been a pioneering platform showcasing over 200 accomplished senior female leaders across business, finance, government, academia, and the not-for-profit sector. It has enabled journalists and event organisers from a range of media organisations across Australia to directly contact leading and respected Australian women for expert media interviews or commentary. The platform has helped to elevate female voices and ensure broader representation in the media and on public stages.
It has been wonderful to see a range of other databases created over time, both across industry sectors and within media organisations. There are now many ways to access female experts across a vast array of topics, and so we have decided that it is appropriate to retire our Women for Media database. We are proud of the pioneering role it has played – and will continue to advocate for the visibility, credibility, and influence of female experts, including via our ongoing research series and our work behind the scenes with media organisations.
